...I've had a lot of posts that start like that.
Well! Bird acquired! My mom and little sister came up Tues night, and Weds morning my mom and I made the 3 hour drive to Fresno to pick up Tango. By the time we got home it was 4:30pm, and we were all exhausted! I had a restless night (new mommy jitters), and in the morning I started falling in love with my bird. Even my pitty, Lily, loves Tango! (Cash ignores him, but Lily likes to lick his feet and belly while wagging as hard as possible. Some day I'll get that on video.)
Tango is incredibly confident, especially for an African Gray. He checks out new things and plays tug of war and is generally unflappable! I love this little bird. I came home last night with Quin, and discovered Tango had made a plum massacre from the plum in his bowl. There was red goo all over. Most specifically, there was red goo on his face, next to one eye, and I couldn't tell if he'd fallen and scraped himself or if it was plum. He sat quietly on Quin's hand while I wiped it off with a wet piece of toilet paper. I've never had a bird so willing to do that!
Today we went to the vet, and the vet said it's the first bird she's ever been able to check a heartbeat on without wrapping them in a towel first. (I insisted she try.) I was so proud of my little guy, though really it's the breeder's good job socializing and handling that got him this far. Now it's my turn to keep him moving forward!
We also went to the pet store, where he was fawned over and handled some more, then home for a nap. He's just an awesome little bird. Exactly the guy I needed. :D
...I have writing-related stuff to blog about too, and books I've been reading, but... not until next week. Until then, I have a bird to snuggle. ;-D
